Breakfasts Around the World

Quantcast Breakfasts Around the World

See 10 global variations on the first meal of the day

Not everyone sits down to a bowl of cereal in the morning—or even an egg, bacon and cheese sandwich. In fact, America is one of the few countries that indulge in a separate type of cuisine for their morning meal. And while Western breakfast traditions have made their way onto tables all over the world, some meal traditions remain the same. From Japan’s morning rice to India’s fava-bean feast, check out 10 of the world’s breakfast staples.

Something Fried? Howabout a SKUNK EGG?

The Texas State Fair has packed up all its fried goodies and left in a huff, but no tears should fall for all the fryer aficionados left in the lurch. I read about this a while back in the Waco Tribune,
but just now got around to checking it out. Most Texans have heard an onion called a Skunk Egg, but this fried concoction is truely a Texas Tribute!

More PICS

Bakery on Franklin
Downtown Waco is getting a kolache shop called Gerik’s Ole Czech Bakery & Deli at Sixth Street and Franklin Avenue — the former home of the Olive Branch restaurant.
“We hope to open within a couple of weeks, no later than mid-June,” said Bryan Anderson, who will own the place with wife Jeanne.
They will serve an array of kolaches, pastries and sandwiches. They also will sell something called a skunk egg, which is a mixture of chicken, cheese, onion, jalapeno and bacon that is battered like chicken-fried steak and then deep fried.
That egg is what the Andersons are best known for at their Gerik’s bakery and restaurant in West, where they also own The Pizza House.

We'll miss Luanne Platter.....

The Pappas Brothers have had to bite the bullet in this economic downturn and shutter some of their local stores.

We lost Luanne Platter as King of the Hill bade farewell this past season.

Now it looks like it'll be hard to find a LuAnn Platter as well for folks in Tarrant County.

Luanne Platter Quotations From King of the Hill

Luanne is Peggy's airheaded niece who lives with Hank and Peggy. Her name is a play on the "Lu Ann" platter at the real-life Texas-based restaurant chain Luby's.

  • Mama's in jail. She was savin' a quart of beer for before bed, and Daddy threw it out, and she went after him with a fork, and the trailer tipped over, and everything turned upside down, and it's all gonna be on Real Stories of the Highway Patrol.
  • (after Hank shows her a list of the 19 house rules)
You know, Uncle Hank, God only has ten rules, and he has a much bigger house.
  • It is very important to always know your name. Here's a little trick I use to remember mine: I think of a man named Lu, and a woman named Anne. They meet in a kingdom in a forest - okay, maybe that's too complicated.
  • (after her beauty school exam)
Well, I passed lather, but I failed rinse...and then I failed repeat, because it includes rinse, which I don't think is very fair!

REGISTER NOW! The Outlaw Chef’s Red River Pig Stickin

The Outlaw Chef’s Red River Pig Stickin is being hosted by the Dennis Ranch in Jefferson County Oklahoma, and is located about 13 miles East of Ryan Oklahoma. We will be hunting approx. 28,000 acres of the South Oklahoma Cross-Timbers country just on the Oklahoma side of the Red River. The geography can be described as plowed ground up-top, (mostly wheat), giving way to lush, entangled & rugged river bottoms, with miles of river bottom pecan orchards. The majority of the river bottom pecan orchards are suitable for walking and stalking, as well as the plowed ground on the above prairie hills. Hunters will sign up for their pasture of choice providing that the number of hunters has not exceeded the limit of hunters allowed. You may switch pastures as openings permit by changing your name to the proper list. Should it rain, all motor vehicles will be restricted to the camp area. If you are caught in the rain and it appears it won’t last long, wait it out and give the roads a chance to dry before returning to camp.

Brrrr - But I'm Not Bringing The Habaneros Inside Yet....

Yes, when the temp dips into the 50's and Texans suddenly smell like moth balls, I'm caught in that old quandary: When to move the plants inside. And as always, according to the Procrastinator's Handbook, the suitable time is after the heater has made its fledgling, dusty start up. So my old bones and my verdant peppers will tough it out a few more days....

The FWPL - Latest Funnies

In the autumn of 2005 I christened my FATTER, LOUDER, STUPIDER tour in an attempt to put my big butt into a RASCAL by the end of the year. I figured shutting off higher brain activity would somehow revert me to my primordial instinctual level and facilitate my acceptance into society at large. Well, my mimicry of Ricky from the TPB got me into some shenanigans and goings on, and now Denis Leary recounts his journey into The American Dream:

In this hilarious blast of scathing irreverence from an award-winning actor and comedian, Leary uses his common sense, and his biting take on the world, to attack the politically correct, the hypocritical, the obese, the thin--basically everyone who takes himself too seriously. Available as an audiobook as well.

Me of little faith by Lewis Black

Black skewers all beliefs through his dark tinted glasses. The AUDIOBOOK will save you the trouble of shouting it internally.

the Tom Butler Memorial Bronc Riding Scholarship and Foundation

You are at the Tom Butler Memorial
Bronc Riding Scholarship and Foundation Web Site!
The TBMBR event was initially organized by cowboy and saddle maker Jeff Gray as a way to honor Tom Butler, of Guthrie, Texas. Butler was an 18-year-old Texas Tech University student when his life was tragically ended in a vehicle accident in February 2006. Butler was one of the shining stars of the cowboy and ranching community, having earned many awards and titles in ranch rodeos and horse competitions, as well as athletic and scholastic activities.

Even though he had yet to reach his 20th birthday, Butler was already a legend in many respects. He was one of those rare individuals that had a memorable, positive impact on everyone he met, young and old. He lived life with infectious passion and purpose, with the wisdom of someone three times his age. At the young age of 17 he prophetically wrote: “We focus so much on what we're waiting for that we miss or forget to appreciate what we have.”

The TBMBR is one small way to keep his legend alive. Make plans now to be in Post, Texas on October 17th, 2009 to be a part of this special event. Donations to the TBMBR scholarship fund are always accepted and appreciated.

For more information, or to obtain an entry form, contact Traci Butler at 806-596-4632 or by e-mail at tracilyn@wildblue.net.

Food and Beverage TV - FREE on the WEB

This is already ubiquitous, but a friend recently contacted me about viewing some cooking shows that were recently aired. I sent them this link, and they were flabbergasted that this material was FREE and AVAILABLE ON DEMAND. So, if the hubby's watching TV ot the kids are Finding Nemo, check out HULU and as long as you're sitting at a desk, it may still be misconstrued as work!

Fall Branding on the Four Sixes

I'm out cookin on the 6's Wagon for the Fall Brandin. I'll be camped way up in the Texas Panhandle on Dixon Creek until about the 10th of Oct. Due to the rough terrain provided by the Canadian River Breaks, I'll be hard to get ahold of as it'll be tough for me to obtain a signal. However, be patient, as I'll be going up to high ground and check'n my mailbox from time to time.
Thanks,
The "Outlaw Chef"
Terry Chandler
